How to UNLOCK a user account in M365?

Hi , I am an admin in M365 and I am unsure how to UNLOCK a user account. Please support in the steps I need to take to unlock a user account.

When it comes to unlocking a user account due to multiple failed login attempts, can you share the error message(s) that you're seeing or any Correlation ID's / Timestamps, so I can take a closer look into your issue?

Hi Nicole,

#1 Go to https://admin.microsoft.com/#/homepage

#2 Type in the user in the search at the top:

#3 Choose the user and a dialogue window will open > hit Unblock sign-in

You can also do this from Azure Active Directory:

#1 Go to https://aad.portal.azure.com/

#2 Go to Users

#3 Search for the user and click on their name.

#4 Go to Edit under Account status

#5 Click the checkbox for Account enabled > Click Save

Thanks but none of that helped. See photos below. In M365 the user is not BLOCKED they are locked because of multiple failed password logins. In AAD the users account status is already enabled.

Check your lockout values in Azure AD:

Manage Azure AD smart lockout values

If your lockout duration has been changed from the default value that you might have to wait until that person's account is unlocked by the system.
