A user is able to sign in at office.com but the outlook application keeps asking for the password even though the right password is being used. Their account isn't locked in Azure Active Directory either.

    Hi @Roach, Brian ,

Will the issue reproduce on other computers?

Does your organization have multi-factor authentication turned on?

For MFA to work in the Outlook application, modern authentication has to be enabled:

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, in the left nav choose Settings > Org settings.
    2. Under the Services tab, choose Modern authentication, and in the Modern authentication pane, make sure Enable Modern authentication is selected. Choose Save changes.

Set up multifactor authentication for Microsoft 365

    Then, enable Security Defaults again:

    1. Sign in to the Azure portal as a security administrator, Conditional Access administrator, or global administrator.
    2. Browse to Azure Active Directory > Properties.
    3. Select Manage security defaults.
    4. Set the Enable security defaults toggle to YES.
    5. Select Save.

If the issue continues, create a new profile:
Open Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles.

    1. Click Add.
    2. Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
    3. Follow the Add Account wizard to add user account as Exchange Online/365 (not POP or SMTP). When you're done, click Finish.
    4. Then open Outlook on new profile and check if issue persists.
