Why doesn't search distinguish between Georgia the state and Georgia the country?

Why doesn't search distinguish between Georgia the state and Georgia the country?

In our term store, we have Georgia under Europe and under United States. When selecting Georgia under United States, search results also include Georgia the country.

How do I get the desired results -- just the state or just the country?

Whether you refer to search in the term store admin center or search in the list and site?

Emily, I don't understand your comments.

We have a form that uses the Term Store to provide values for location, therefore, Georgia (the country) and Georgia (the state) each has an unique GUID. When using our search form, the Term Store is also used to provide the geographic term. Yet, the search results include both Georgia (the country) and Georgia (the state).

Why? Can this be prevented?
