What is the self signed certificate called Microsoft Exchange used for exactly?

Hi, does anyone here know what the certificate called "Microsoft Exchange" is used for in Exchange?

This certificate is present by default in all servers when you setup the server but I now have a server where this certificate is about to expire.

It doesn't really have a name that I can relate to a certain function of the server. This certificate is applied to SMTP and IIS and is greyed out so I cannot edit that.

The server itself uses a third party SSL certificate (mail.customer.com) for all Exchange services (IMAP POP IIS SMTP) and all Virtual Directories are set to this DNS name.

I would like to know some more about this certificate and what would happen should it expire

    Its used for SMTP traffic and internal communications. Its important to renew it. I wrote here how to do that:
