Visual Studio 2022 crash after startup

I was working fine on VS 2022 17.4, but one day I tried to open to program and after the splash screen it closes immediately.

I tried reparing and reinstalling the program, but nothing works.

Please also run devenv.exe /log command in Developer Command Prompt for VS 2022, and check the ActivityLog.xml file which is generated in %AppData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\17.0_<UniqueID>. If there’s any error information recorded, please share the detailed error message with us to check.

Besides, here are some suggestions that you can try to troubleshoot first:

Rename this folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\OnlineLicensing\VisualStudio, and restart VS.

Reboot your machine and restart VS(confirm that no other processes block you from running VS).

Update Windows OS and make sure that there are no Windows Update errors.

BTW, was anything changed on your machine before this issue appeared?

ActivityLog.xml this is the activity log

and I tried your suggestions and nothing works

Thanks for sharing the ActivityLog.xml file with us.

Please try to search CMD in Windows Search box and click Run as administrator. Type and run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. Wait for minutes until the command finishes running. Please let us know if there’s any error message prompted.

Hi Abdulrahman,

In addition, please navigate to this directory: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\17.0_XXXXXXXX. Rename every ComponentModelCache folders.

Hi! I'm having the same problem as the one mention it in this thread. I tried with the devenv.exe /log and I have generated the ActivityLog.xml file. Can I share it with you to check what my problem could be?

Renaming the folder

C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\OnlineLicensing\VisualStudio

Deleting the OnlineLicensing\VisualStudio directory worked for me for a silent crash-to-desktop after opening a project, too.

Renaming the folder

C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\OnlineLicensing\VisualStudio

Have you tried starting Visual Studio in safe mode?

If that still fails, have a look in the Event Viewer to see what the record of the problem may be.

Hi @Kevin Cheng,

Did you install any extension?(If so, please try to uninstall the extension and check again) Did you modify something like VS files, system files?

Please try following:

Repair VS from VS Installer > More > Repair.

Update VS.

Uninstall installed extensions if you have installed any.

Reinstall VS.

Rename following folder: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\OnlineLicensing\VisualStudio and restart VS.

Rename this folder: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio and restart VS.

Update Windows OS, open CMD as administrator and run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth, then run sfc /scannow.
