How to connect App Service to VM in vNet

I have a MySQL server running on a Debian VM in Azure. I want to connect my .Net Web App running in App Service to that server. Both are in the same vNet and vNet intergration is on in the App Service. Still I cant connect or even ping the virtual machine from my App Serivce. If I run another VM in the same vNet I can connect and ping that server. Is there anything more I need to do? I feel like I have tried everything.

Did you check Firewall rules on your VM network settings, is MySQL port opened ans listened inside the VM?

Yes the rules should be okay. Looks like this:

I can also connect to MySQL from the other test VM I started.

If you want to confirm connectivity from App Service to VNET VM with MySQL Go to App Services application => Advanced tools or console => perform below commands sequence wise as the HTTP communication happens through this sequence:

nslookup {Destination_FQDN} {Optional-DNSServer}/nameresolver {Destination_FQDN} {Optional-DNSServer} tcpping {Destination FQDN} curl -v {DestinationFQDN}

Common Scenarios: If you're receiving connection refused it means its NSG is not allowing the communication. If you're getting request time out it means it could be due to firewall or no proper routes to reach to destination. If its connection abort it means its intermediate device is not passing connection through.

In addition @Felix Holmertz have you tried running the Troubleshooter on the app service VNet Integration blade? What were the results?
