Is it possible to force an Android mobile to keep a remote connection in portrait mode while matching the resolution of the display?

We are using a Zebra MC93 running Android 11, with Microsoft Remote Desktop version 8.1.32.57, deployed via an APK.

I'm aware there are more recent versions of this application, however, higher versions of v8 have issues with inputting scan data, and v10 is buggy with the server we are connecting to (Windows Server 2008 R2).

I have attempted to create and RDP file on Windows and adjust the settings in notepad, such as 'desktopheight' and 'desktopwidth' to match the display, but this doesn't work.

I've also attempted to lock the Android device in portrait mode, but to no avail.

Is there any way this can be achieved?

Hi. Thank you for your question and reaching out. I’d be more than happy to help you with your query.

Yes, it is possible to force an Android mobile to keep a remote connection in portrait mode while matching the resolution of the display. However, the specific method for doing so may vary depending on the remote connection software or app you are using.

One way to achieve this is to use the built-in Remote Desktop feature in Windows 10 and use an app such as Microsoft Remote Desktop for Android.

    1. In Windows 10, open the Remote Desktop Connection application and go to the "Options" menu.
    2. In the "Display" tab, select the "Use all my monitors for the remote session" option and choose the resolution you want.
    3. In your Android device, install the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, open it and connect to the Windows 10 PC.
    4. In the app settings, under "Remote Session", select the "Landscape" option to force the remote connection to stay in portrait mode.

Another way would be to use a third party app, such as TeamViewer, that allows for custom resolution settings, and set the display to portrait mode.

It's important to note that not all apps or software have the capability to match the resolution of the Android device and force the remote connection to stay in portrait mode. Additionally, not all Android devices may support the same feature, you should check the documentation or support of the app or software you are using to confirm if this is possible.
