How can I make the splash image to fill the screen vertically and horizontally?

Is there an update to this issue? I have the same goal - to make splash screen fill the screen on both iOS and Android - and am not very confident that setting base size in numbers is a good idea taking in account that all screen sizes vary. I just want the image to fill any screen. Is there a proper way to do that?
