Hello Community,

i have Questions about a Azure Migrate Project with local Hyper V - VMs.

1.)

When i migrate VMs from VMware to Azure i need always an Azure Migrate Appliance on the local Network.

What is when i would like to migrate Hyper V - VMs?

Need i a Azure Migrate Appliance only for the Assesment of the VMs or need i always a Azure Migrate Appliance to migrate the VMs from onPremises to Azure?

When i read the MS Documentation i can find, that i not need an Azure Migrate Appliance. So the Migration works with the Agents on the Hyper V Hosts.

2.)

When i use an Azure Migrate Appliance on a Hyper V Host.

Can I use this appliance for replication to Azure or do I still have to install the AzureSiteRecoveryAgent on the Hyper V hosts as well?

Thanks a lot

Greetings,

Phil

    Hi Phil,

Azure Migrate appliance isn't used for Hyper-V migration. for migrating Hyper-V VMs, the Migration and modernization tool installs software providers (Microsoft Azure Site Recovery provider and Microsoft Azure Recovery Service agent) on Hyper-V Hosts or cluster nodes.

So you will need both the agents for replication and migration and also this document provides detailed steps on setting up the HyperV migration process - [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/tutorial-migrate-hyper-v?tabs=UI

    Hope this helps.
