I have an Office 365 subscription, and have for several years. I use the apps in my business. My primary computer systems are Mac computers. For years the Office apps have worked just fine on my MAc computers, but now I am getting a warning message when I have an app open (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc) that I can't use normal functions on a Mac (ie. save, print export, modify documents etc).

Is this something that can be changed or is this a permanent limitations of all Office 365 apps?

Without screenshots or something we'd just be guessing what the issue is but I'm going to wager the problem is with security. Most likely you're opening the document from an untrusted location and so Office is putting you into "read only" mode. In that mode you cannot do most things other than read the document. HOwever, at least in the Windows version, there is a banner at the top that asks you to confirm that you trust the document and then it enables all the standard features.

Please provide us more information about what you're doing and ideally some screenshots. Also confirm whether this happens with new documents or only existing documents. Finally note that if a document has a macro in it then it is going to be locked down going forward as macros are easy to hack. In newer office versions macro-enabled documents are saved using a different file extension (not sure what that looks like on Mac) so it is clear that the document may run macros.

It sounds like your subscription has lapsed and your Office apps have been deactivated. To check the status of your subscription, please visit the Services & subscriptions page of your Microsoft account.

    Hi @R Allan Jensen

For better analysis, could you please share us with some screenshots?

    • If this issue occur with all Mac computers, please make sure your account has the license of Microsoft 365 subscriptions now and make sure Office for Mac are activated. Besides, as Michael Taylor suggested, check whether files include macro and from Internet.
    • If this issue only occur with one Mac computer, please check the location where Office files are stored, and if they are on local computer, please ensure you have sufficient permissions to access or edit these files. You can change the location to test this issue. If they are from Internet, please ensure no antivirus program blocks them. You can download them for a test.
