Hello experts!

I have configured the device restriction profile for the Android device for setting password length. There is one profile for Android which has the following properties and it is assigned to all Users. Below is the screenshot for the 1st profile:

User's image

Here, the Required Password type and Minimum password length are configured, and password complexity is set as None.

And then I have configured the 2nd Profile for Android 12+ as it was clearly mentioned in the Microsoft document that "Newly enrolled Android Enterprise 12+ devices will automatically use the Password complexity setting with the High complexity. So if you don't want a High password complexity, then create a new policy for Android Enterprise 12+ devices and configure the Password complexity setting."

Below is the screenshot for the 2nd profile:

User's image

Here, only Password complexity is configured and set as Medium, and there is no other setting is configured, in this profile. According to the setting's feature it should set the minimum password as 4 characters, but in Android 12+ device it is taking the minimum 8 and 6 characters. which is not fulfilling the condition.

What is the reason behind this behavior?

Thanks!

Nidhi

Hi Nidhi, I'm not sure what causes the behaviour. But could you create an assignment filter for Android 11 and earlier and one for Android 12 and later. On the first policy exclude all Android 12 and later devices by using the filter and on the second policy exclude all Android 11 and earlier devices. This way you can check of the policy is really applied. Regards, Ruud

No need to create a separate policy. The password complexity setting will only apply on Android 12. Also, I believe alphabetic and alphanumeric can work 6 chars in Android 12
