Hi I have been in touch with Western Digital concerning this issue & they have been unable to help as it seems to use all 4TB I will need to erase all of the drive already in use.

Is there a way to allocate the unallocated space without copying all of the system ( backing up ) to another Hard Drive.

Thanks in advance for any help. This is a copy of the help from Western Digital........

Hello keith,

Thank you for your co-operation on our phone call .

As we discussed, your Windows Operating system is not utilizing the full cpacity of your drive as it shows a part as unallocated(black label) in Disk management right on next on the currently used part of the drive (under a blue label)

We tried to extend the part that you are currently using in your drive in order to add also the remaining unallocated part but we got an error saying that we are not able to do so as the current partition of the drive is not in GPT as it should, therefore we are not able to utilize more than 2TB on your drive with the current configuration.

A brief description of the steps that we tried is also mentioned on the below link from Microsoft:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/extend-a-basic-volume

As I understood, what need to be done for the whole drive or at least (if possible) for the unallocated part of your drive is what is mentioned below under quotation (step 2 in the above link, 4th dot) :

"If the disk is larger than 2 TB, make sure that it's using the GPT partitioning scheme. To use more than 2 TB on a disk, it must be initialized using the GPT partitioning scheme. To convert to GPT, see Change an MBR disk into a GPT disk.
If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further."

Now as the above process might be Data destructive, I would advise to contact Microsoft directly to see if there is an option to fix that without completely erasing your drive.

I will be waiting for your feedback in regards to the suggestions from Microsoft in order to see how we can proceed.

Sincerely,
Logan K

    1. Open disk management (by default rows and columns are compressed and characters are cutoff)

    a) Widen these rows: disk 0, disk 1, disk 2, disk 3, etc. > make sure that no characters are cutoff

    b) Widen these columns: Status and Volume > make sure that no characters are cutoff
