Authenticator app not saving new passwords on Android

Recently switched to using authenticator app for managing passwords across devices, rather than Google services (built into chrome and also android os). The big difference I've noticed though is that authenticator never offers to save new passwords, for example if you login manually or create a new account. Surely you don't have to go into the authenticator app and manually add each new account/password? In the app I have the autofill setting option to 'save and autofill' although I think this only applies to addresses and payments, not passwords

    Hi, John.

    The Microsoft Authenticator will need to be registered to do your Autofill.

    Under Settings, there should be Autofill, this needs to be toggled on.
