Lost all authenticator codes

Question

I got a new phone and when i transferred all my data over it did not copy the authenticator app and i lost all my codes

You can restore from backup (assuming there was one) but make sure no accounts have been added to the newly install app. Then sign on with recovery account to do the restore.

You can recover your account credentials from your cloud account, but you must first make sure that the account you're recovering doesn't exist in the Microsoft Authenticator app. For example, if you're recovering your personal Microsoft account, you must make sure you don't have a personal Microsoft account already set up in the authenticator app. This check is important so we can be sure we're not overwriting or erasing an existing account by mistake.

Hi,

There is no way to get the codes back unless you setup the backup and restore with new phone before it was setup on the new phone. So on old phone you need to setup backup and restore on the new phone, if not you will have setup the apps with new auth codes.

Be cerfully! You can lost keys if you do backup too! Happen to me.

I log on another device and I added a key, but I realized the app did not bring back my old keys, but also app did backup in meanwhile and overrides my all old keys!

This sick AF. Instead of auto bring up backup you have to do it manually and if you don't and app does backup of new keys you get - bum all other is lost.

This is literally why I quit the MS Auth app :/
