Azure Stack HCI Nodes cannot be added in Microsoft Azure Backup Server

Hello!

We are currently testing the MABS Server for the Backups of a Azure Stack HCI System (Hosts and VMs running on them). Sadly we have the Problem that we cannot add them to the MABS System. The Cluster Nodes are registered in the Active Directory and both nodes can be pinged by the DNS name from the MABS Server and the Domain Controller

Screenshot Active Directory:

But the Systems do not appear in the GUI for the Agent Installation

The manual input of the FQDN sadly does also not work

Is there any Setting missing from our Side for the adding of the HCI Nodes?

Best Regards

When reviewing the screen shot it seems you install MABSv3 RTM version (13.0.415.0) and you are trying to protect the Azure Stack HCI.

The support for Azure Stack HCI started from MABSv3 UR2, please find below the link for protection matrix.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-mabs-protection-matrix#vm-backup

Please upgrade MABS to MABSv3 UR2 using the below link and then try to install the agent on Azure Stack HCI which should address the issue which you are currently experiencing.

When reviewing the screenshots, it appears that you are using DPM instead of MABS to setup backup for the nodes. Please correct me if I am misunderstanding.

Backup of Azure Stack HCI nodes is supported with MABS and setup should be done through the MABS Administrator console. You can check the requirements and follow the steps outlined on this page.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance or still have questions.

I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Azure Backup Server in V3 for this as at the installation also a Microsoft Azure Recovery Service Vault Credential File needed to be specified.

I followed the following documentation for the Setup of the MABS Server
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-microsoft-azure-backup

This worked as expected and there is no error on the MABS Server for the installation.

Further I am stuck at point 2 of back up Virtual machines of the following Documentation:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/back-up-azure-stack-hyperconverged-infrastructure-virtual-machines#supported-scenarios

Point 2 defines "Set up the MABS protection agent on the server or each cluster node." and this is exactly where i am stuck as the element does not appear in the GUI for the Agent push (the Domain Controller worked flawlessly after the Firewall exceptions)

Additionally i tried a manual installation of the Agent according to the only documentation i found
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/dpm/deploy-dpm-protection-agent?view=sc-dpm-2022
under the point "Install the agent manually" as this paths and files do exist on the MABS Server but this was more troubleshooting and trying as something else.

To my understanding the HCI-Nodes should appear like the Domain Controller in the GUI for the Agent push inside the same Domain or even the manual input of the FQDN should be possible.

A Firewall exception to whitelist all services with the MABS Server as Source does exist on all HCI Nodes.

    Best Regards
