Hi @Travis@KIC Applicable Windows VMs hosted in Azure will receive free extended security updates automatically until the end of ESU for Windows server 2012 R2 which is October 13, 2026.

For VMs hosted in Azure, the process of enabling the server for Extended Security Updates is automatically completed for you. Updates should download and install without additional configuration.

For SQL servers in Azure, as long as the SQL IaaS extension agent is deployed and running on the SQL VM it will also received extended security updates automatically at no additional cost.

    Hello there,

SQL Server and Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 Extended Security Updates (ESUs) are coming to an end on July 12, 2022, and January 10, 2023, respectively. Many customers are taking advantage of Azure’s commitment to security and compliance and have moved to Azure to protect their 2008/2008 R2 workloads with free Extended Security Updates.

For those customers who need some more time to upgrade and modernise their SQL Server and Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 on Azure, we will now provide one additional year of free extended security updates, only on Azure. This includes other Azure products such as Azure Dedicated Host, Azure VMWare Solution, Azure Nutanix Solution and Azure Stack (Hub, Edge and HCI).

Get Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 and SQL Server 2012 Extended Security Updates for three more years at no additional charge, only in Azure.

Hope this resolves your Query !!
