Hi,

We have a Hyper-v VM Servers that are part of our disaster recovery Replicating to the Azure. All of the servers showing a green checkmark with replication to azure except one of the server 2012 R2 that is also one of our DC's.

In the application logs of this server see these warning and errors:

Error 18012

Checkpoint operation for 'VMServdc2' failed. (Virtual machine ID XXX-XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXX)

Error 33676

Replication operation for virtual machine 'Server name' failed: The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur. (0x800423F4). (Virtual machine ID XXX-XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXX (Primary server: 'servername.mydomain.local', Replica server: 'Microsoft Azure')

Warning 32024

Hyper-V failed to generate VSS snapshot set for virtual machine 'server name': The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur. (0x800423F4). VSS snapshot set generation can fail if backup operation is in progress. (Virtual machine ID XXX-XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXX )

Any idea why we get this on this server?

    Hi,

All of the servers showing a green checkmark with replication to azure except one of the server 2012 R2 that is also one of our DC's.

We have met a similar case that DC 2012R2 failed to replica to Azure with VSS writer NTDS error 0x800423F4, the cause is due to the integration services, as a workaround, we downgraded the integration service to version 6.3.16384.0, please check if this method applies to your scenario too.

    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Microsoft-Hyper-V-Integration-Services-Package-2~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.9600.18398

After removing the package, restart the computer, and check if the issue is fixed.

    Thanks for your time!
    Best Regards,
    Anne
