Sounds good, it should have worked as long as the disk is confirmed offline as far as the host is concerned.

Hi.
I have a problem with Hyper-V in Windows Server 2022 x64 and Windows 11 arm64. In these specific cases, it seems to be impossible to attach host physical disks directly to a VM. No other Windows versions or architecture combinations seem to have this issue.
In other cases, it is possible to simply offline the disk in Disk Management and then it is available to select in the physical hard disk dropdown box in VM settings. But not in Windows Server 2022 x64 or Windows 11 arm64. The dropdown box is always grayed out even if there are offline disks.
Am I missing something else here or is this a bug of some sort?

The dropdown box where it says "Physical hard disk" is grayed out in VM settings, even though there is an offline disk as shown in Disk Management window behind. In other versions of Windows it becomes possible to select to attach this physical disk in this scenario.

2023-02-05T15:46:02.46+00:00 No, that is what I always have done in older versions and it has always worked perfectly. It seems it does not work anymore in Windows Server 2022 x64 and Windows 11 arm64 though.

2023-02-05T18:54:38.2833333+00:00 Thanks! I saw now that I had already sent in feedback about this during a test of Windows Server 2022 Preview before it was release. Maybe this feature is not used a lot these days and nobody else have noticed that it no longer works.

2025-05-19T09:55:38.1+00:00 No, I never found a solution other than upgrading to Server 2025 when that was released. There it works perfectly. However, I never found a solution for it on Windows 11 arm64.
