Folder search in Windows 11 is not working as it supposed to be

Hi there,

I'm new to W11 and I noticed one thing that is bothering me a bit.

Let's assume we have a folder with a lot of files. There is a file named: test-1-test2.mp4

If you search for test or test-1 the file is found but if you search for either of those:

1, -1- or test2

nothing is found. I don't believe it behaves how it supposed to because in W7 everything was working well.

How can I fix it?

Cheers.

Hi. Thank you for your question and reaching out. I’d be more than happy to help you with your query

There are a few things you may attempt to fix folder search problems in Windows 11 if you are having them.

To begin with, make sure the indexing service is up and running. To do this, type services.msc into the Start menu search box to bring up the Services window. Find the Windows Search service and determine whether it is active. Start the service if it isn't already operating, then see if the problem has been solved.

You can attempt rebuilding the Windows Search index if the indexing service is operational but the problem still exists. To achieve this, type "indexing" into the Start menu search box to bring up the Indexing Options window. Select the Rebuild option under Advanced in the Indexing Options window.

You might attempt to reset the Windows Search components if the problem still exists. To accomplish this, launch an elevated Command Prompt window and enter the following command:

    dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup

Restart your computer to see whether the problem has been fixed. You can attempt to reset the Windows Search settings if the problem continues. Open the Settings window and go to Apps > Apps & features > Manage optional features to accomplish this.

Locate the Windows Search function by scrolling down. To reinstall the functionality, restart your computer after clicking the Uninstall option. Verify that the problem has been fixed.
