Hello all,

I have a question.

is it allowed to mix different versions on one server?

Xeon E-2388g 8C/16T

Windows Server 2022 Host + 2 Windows 2022 VMs

This is one license.

Can I now additionally run 2 Windows Server 2019 VMs on it and just use an existing Windows Server 2019 license?

Linux VMs are excluded anyway. As I understand it, I can use as many of them as I want.

Thank you

    Hi

    Yes you can. To make it clear, to have 2 x Windows 2022 and 2 x Windows 2019 you need a Windows 2019 and a Windows 2022 licence. You could have 2 x Wndows Server 2022 licence too, as you have downgrade right.

    The restriction is your host must have only the hyper-v's role on it and tool to monitor/manage the VM.

    To quote the licensing;

    All physical cores on the server must be licensed, subject to a minimum of 8 core licenses per physical processor and a minimum of 16 core licenses per server. Windows Server Standard edition permits use of one running instance of the server software in the physical OSE on the licensed server (in addition to two virtual OSEs), if the physical OSE is used solely to host and manage the virtual OSEs.

    thank you, I was hoping for this answer.

    Additional Linux VMs I can use as many as I want though, right?
