Microsoft windows security scam?

A laptop gets a message saying it is locked, that the IP address has been used without knowledge or consent to visit with ID theft possible. It says to call Microsoft Security at 1-833-982-0883 and NOT to close or restart the computer, I called the number because I was freaking out because I need my computer. The lady on the other end said to hit the windows button and the R at the same time to get the run box to pop up and then she wanted me to type in the box teamviewer.com , right then I hung up because I knew something was off. Next thing I know she calls back and was very rude and called me stupid, I hung up again and then a man calls asking why I called and what the problem was with my computer. I told him that he just called me and I didn't call him and he was rude too. It all seemed sketchy at first but I am a gullible person, I will admit that. So, I almost fell for it. I ended up running a virus scan myself and nothing was wrong. So, I am assuming this is a scam? They wanted to get into my computer with the "team viewer" thing right? I am freaked out now because even though I didn't go through the process on the phone with them , I am still worried they will have access to my important files on my computer.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Indeed it was SCAM and as long as you didn't install any program or share any data you are safe.

I am wondering where did you see the message?

Was it in a browser or did you install any application?

You may check the history of your browser and if it was there, then report the URL to Microsoft.
