IHello,

I am in the process of migrating two file shares to a destination server using Windows Storage Migration Services. The current setup has both file shares located on a single drive, but I need to place one of the shares on Drive D and the other share on Drive E on the destination server.

Is it possible to achieve this using Windows Storage Migration Services? If so, could you please provide any guidance or tips on how to accomplish this task? This not a cluster.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Thank you for your question and reaching out. I’d be more than happy to help you with your query

Yes, it is possible to use Windows Storage Migration Services (WSMS) to migrate file shares to different drives on the destination server. Here's how you can do it:

Start the WSMS wizard on the destination server and follow the steps to add the source file server.

In the "Select data to migrate" step, select the two file shares you want to migrate and proceed to the next step.

In the "Configure destination" step, you'll see a list of the file shares and their current locations on the source server. You can select each file share and change its location to a different drive on the destination server.

After you have selected the desired locations for each file share, proceed to the next step and complete the migration process.

After the migration is complete, verify that the file shares have been successfully migrated to the correct drives on the destination server.

Note that during the migration process, WSMS will create a new folder for each file share on the destination drive and copy the contents of the source folder to the new folder. This will ensure that the original file shares on the source server remain unchanged.

Also, if you have any permissions or access control lists (ACLs) set up on the source file shares, they will be preserved during the migration process and applied to the corresponding folders on the destination server.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you need any further assistance.

I tried following the steps, but I encountered an issue at the volume mapping step. I was unable to map the second volume on the destination server as I only have the option to map drive C: and drive D. I would also like to clarify that my source server only has one volume, D, where my source shares are located. My destination server has drives D and E.
