SharePoint: Folder Title Field Missing

I have a simple SharePoint library with files stored in subfolders. I have a simple view with the Title column visible. The Title values are shown for all previously created folders.

The Title column used to be available for editing for both folders and files. However, this week I noticed that the Title column is not available when editing the properties of a folder (only the Name field is available). A workaround is to edit the Title of a folder in grid view.

A colleague is seeing the same behaviour in a different site.

Is this a recent change to Folder properties in SharePoint?

I am aware that I can use document sets or possibly a custom content type to address this issue, but this used to work out of the box.

    Hi @DB_365

Per my test, I could still edit the Title column by click "Details" with files but folders not. This could be by design.

I was able to re-add the "Title" column field by editing the view,

    User's image

toggling the Title checkbox, User's image

    and clicking 'OK'.

We have used that column value in Power Platform for an application. This change by Microsoft has impacted the application to work as intended. Is it a bug or intended behavior new release by Microsoft? If it is a bug, how to get Microsoft to rollback?

what is the field notice for this change and why was it needed? We have indexes built to use the title field which no longer work. Even the sharepoint migration tool still creates this field when we transfer content to document libraries, but the regular ADD button doesnt update that field any longer?
