In one scenario, I have a primary server in one site and a backup server in other site but these sites have a fiber link and  ping each other . I want the backup server and the main server to be up at the same time, and the backup server can be in sync with the main server, and if the main server goes down, the backup server can respond to external clients. In your opinion, to implement this scenario,  with nlb failover clustering server or nlb failover, could the IP ranges of the backup server and the main server be different? if The IP ranges of these two servers are different and pinged each other, can i use nlb failover server or failover clustering server ways?

    Hello there,

Yes, you can use them even with the different IP addresses.

For the failover cluster, If the server does not have a network adapter that is configured to use DHCP, you must configure one or more static IP addresses for the failover cluster.

A distributed network name uses the IP addresses of the member servers instead of requiring a dedicated IP address for the cluster. By default, Windows uses a distributed network name if it detects that you're creating the cluster in Azure (so you don't have to create an internal load balancer for the cluster), or a normal static or IP address if you're running on-premises.

Hope this resolves your Query !!

    Hey,

It depends on a services you are using on your Windows Servers. Failover cluster requires multiple network connections (at least two) between the servers. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/failover-clustering/failover-clustering-networking-basics-and-fundamentals/ba-p/1706005

In addition, if your services require shared storage, you will need to configure it. There are multiple options. StarWind VSAN or S2D can be used.
