First of all, as Viorel says, use the SQL Server Configuration Manager to view and control the SQL Server services.
Next, try to start the SQLEXPRESS instance.
If it does not, chech the SQL Server errorlog, which is in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQLnn.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG assuming a default installation. nn here is the version number for the instance.
Hi @Victor Wallenberg ,
Comparing your screenshot with mine, it seems that your SQLEXPRESS instance is not started, you can right click to start it.
In addition, you can do some checks:
Go to All Programs –> Microsoft SQL Server –>SQL Server Configuration Manager–>SQL Server Network Configuration–> Protocols
Check if the TCP/IP is ‘Disabled’ then right click on the TCP/IP and click Enable.
