Is knowing how to administer a Windows pc a prerequisit to understand administration of Windows Server?

I'm looking for courses to learn adminstering Windows Server.

Is it necessary / useful to learn adminstering a Windows Desktop before or are these topics completly independant from each other?

What may be a senseful approach?
