Kiosk Mode in Windows 11, Single App but multiple instances?

We have an issue we are facing with a setup for windows 11 in single-app kiosk mode/assigned use, using an extended display for a multimedia kiosk playing videos.

When hooked up to an extended display, the app we are using (media kiosk) runs the video selector/app on the primary screen, and then the second/extended screen is the actual video playback. So it is the same 'app', but two instances of that app are basically open at any one time. It works exactly as we were hoping it to!

This setup of one app - multiple instances is fine when we are not in Kiosk Mode, but when we switch Kiosk Mode on, the wrinkle we have is that while both 'instances' of the app run and we get audio through the connected speakers confirming that the second 'instance' of the app is running (and can change/select through videos too), on the extended display/screen there is no video playback/output.

I am not sure if there is a solution/setting change I can make windows side for it to allow video output in Kiosk Mode to an extended display vs. duplicating a display? Or is there a solution to allow multiple-instances of the same app to run with equal permissions in kiosk mode (so the second one is able to function as normal?)

Thanks!

Hi. Thank you for your question and reaching out. I’d be more than happy to help you with your query

Kiosk Mode is a feature of Windows 11 which allows you to restrict user access and prevent them from making changes to the system. In order to run multiple instances of a single app in Kiosk Mode, you will need to enable the ‘Allow multiple instances of the app’ setting in the Kiosk Mode configuration. This will allow you to launch multiple copies of the same app, which can be useful for certain apps that require multiple users to interact with the same instance.

Additionally, you may need to adjust the Kiosk Mode settings in order to allow multiple instances of the app to run. You will need to make sure that the ‘Allow restricting user access’ setting is enabled, as well as the ‘Allow multiple instances of the app’ setting.

I hope this information helps you in setting up Kiosk Mode in Windows 11 to run multiple instances of a single app.
