How to create Multiple networks using one trunk in SCVMM?

Hello Experts,

I have SCVMM 2022 with 2 Hyper-V Hosts in my test environment. Each hosts has physical connection to our Corp Network which provides DHCP IP to clients.

I already succeeded setting up the "Corp Network" Logical Network & VM Network in SCVMM, which means the VM1 & VM2 can get DHCP IP address successfully and able to communicate to each other and all other machines in the Corp Network.

My question is, if I would like to have 2 more isolated networks (will use private static IP Address to guest OS) but USING ONLY THE NIC1 as the trunk or physical cable in both hosts, so that VM1 & VM2 can also communicate thru those networks, is this possible in SCVMM? If yes, can anyone show me how?

The purpose of multiple networks is apps inside the VM requires multiple networks, not just the Corp Network.

I know that this can be done by allocating another physical NIC per host and creating Logical & VM Networks to it and mapping to virtual switch. But my goal is to use ONLY ONE NIC per host as a trunk. I'm not sure (and don't know how) if this is possible using one Logical Network, hence the question mark in the diagram below.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alfred

    Hi

have you set up an SDN Network Controller in the SCVMM fabric? Because you have only a single NIC per host, that may the best option. The article below and the supporting documentation and prerequisites should help with this:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/vmm/sdn-controller?view=sc-vmm-2022 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure-stack/hci/concepts/plan-software-defined-networking-infrastructure

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks

Yes, you can use one physical NIC on your Host. On the physical Switch you have to configure your network port (as trunk port with multiple VLANs) where your Host is connected. In SCVMM you can configure multiple vNetworks with different VLAN IDs associated with VLANs you have configured on physical switch.
