Non Azure VM device saying "Remote machine is AAD joined"

Hi all,

I've seen only one thread that hasn't really provided any solution hence why I'm writing this thread.

I've got my own organization owned and Azure joined device that i use on daily basis. Recently due to clients needs I've created a Ubuntu VM that's stored on my machine to try and test some solutions for remote connection to it.

Ubuntu is set up properly and connection between the VM and the local device is good. They are talking to each other as intended. Issue is, when i try RDP-ing to the device (XRDP and everything else has been set up according to the documentation of the devs), Windows Security pop up gives me a sign in option and when i try to connect, I'm getting the "Remote machine is AAD joined" error.
Error attached. User from the only thread that i found previously had issue with Windows to Windows connection but it shouldn't make any difference since the communication between the two is good and working. Error signing in

Error Message:

Remote machine is AAD joined. If you are signing in to your work account, try using your work email address.

From your issue and follow up, I understand that you're having issues establishing a remote desktop connection to your Ubuntu Linux VM hosted within your Windows 10 device (Azure AD Joined). Each time you try to connect to your Linux VM from your Windows computer you're running into the above error message.

To gain a better understanding of your issue:

Can you share the documentation that you followed to set this up?

For your Linux VM, is this a Hyper-V or is this a VM created within Azure? Any info or documentation on how you created the VM would be greatly appreciated.

From the error, are you using your AAD/work account or other user credentials when logging in?

Findings:

When looking into your error message, I found a Stack Overflow thread and 3rd party article talking about modifying the RDP file to resolve the issue. Are you able to see if this helps with your login issue?

I am not sure i understand you. I'll try to clarify the situation.

My PC is a Windows 10 Azure AD joined device.

Linux VM machine is a Non Azure joined device.

When trying to connect to the VM via RDP, I am getting an error that the remote machine is AAD joined.

Remote machine being the Linux VM, obviously. Considering it's definitely not an AAD joined device, i am not sure why am i getting this pop up.
