I set up my new phone via iCloud. Authenticator shows up on my new phone, but with all the accounts saying they need to be re-authorized (these are critical work accounts for several clients). I tried the recommended solution, using my recovery account, but it just gives me back the same thing saying that I need new QR codes for all the accounts. It appears that the backup was overwritten by the new iPhone authenticator app(!) so there's nothing there to recover... how is that supposed to work?
The authenticator app is still working just fine on my old iPhone but I have to turn that in soon, so can't keep using that indefinitely. Surely there's some way to transfer all the data: Google Authenticator transferred everything over perfectly with no problem.
Plus, I also have a backup on my Mac from the old iPhone which has the correct MS Authenticator values.
