How to enable and use OAUTH2 for POP in Outlook 2021 retail (not 365, not Exchange)

I have Outlook 2021 Professional Plus (retail) and need to connect (POP) to a verizon[.]net email account (hosted by AOL). AOL allows 2 methods to do this, app password generation or OAUTH2.

We were using AOL's app password generator but it has been offline for days and AOL indicates it doesn't know when or even if it will return. This means - App Password Generation is no longer an option for us. That leaves OAUTH2.

Microsoft says Outlook 2016 and later has support for OAUTH2. However all of Microsoft's Outlook+OAUTH2 documentation assumes one is running Outlook 365 and/or connecting to an Exchange server.

We do not have Outlook 365. We have Outlook 2021 Professional Plus retail. There seems to be no OAUTH2 documentation for Outlook 2021 retail.

How do we get OAUTH2 to become available in Outlook 2021 retail?

Once available, how do we configure it to connect to a POP mail account?

    Hi @Noah Vail ,

    Welcome to our forum!

As i know, there is no plan for Outlook clients to support OAuth for POP and IMAP, but Outlook can connect use MAPI/HTTP (Windows clients) and EWS (Outlook for Mac).
