Teams classes in Canvas: Change type of team created via Teams Sync Integration

We have successfully set up the Microsoft Teams Classes integration in our instance of Canvas. While things work on the surface, the Team that is created by the integration is an "MS Team Class," which provides a duplicate suite of tools (assignments, grades, notepad, announcements, etc.) that are confusing to instructor and student alike, and are especially inappropriate for the Higher Ed environment (it's geared towards grade school).

Is there a way to have the Canvas/Microsoft Teams integration use a different, more generic template? Or, is there a way to strip a Team that has been created as a "class" of its attempts to be an LMS (remove Assignments, Grades, etc.... these are all in Canvas already). My attempts at doing this have failed.

All of this would be unnecessary if MS would let users change the template of an already-existing Team. That lack of function is astounding to me... and evidently many others, too, as I've read in many places on support.microsoft.com.
