Files are converted to .zip files after being sent with Outlook

Hello everyone!

For 2 weeks now, some files (.docx, .xlsx), sent with Outlook have been converted into a .zip file after they have been sent.

We were able to find this out using the M365 Security Portal.

If the receipient opens the file, it seems to be corrupt and the file size is smaller then the original one.

On the client pc there is no third-party tool or add-in for Outlook installed.

Is this behavior known and possibly caused by an update?

Thanks for your input!

Greetings, Junior

    Hi @Junior ,

For 2 weeks now, some files (.docx, .xlsx), sent with Outlook have been converted into a .zip file after they have been sent.

Do you mean that after you sent the emails with attachment (.docx, .xlsx), recipients got as .zip format?

If so, have you check if the attachments of emails in your Sent Items folder is the original format or .zip format?

And does this issue occur with all attachments or some specific attachments?

In addition, does this issue occur when you sent emails on Web Mail?

If the issue doesn't occur on Web Mail, in order to further confirm if the issue is related to the current Outlook client, it's suggested that you could try to add your account in other computers and send emails with the same attachments to check if there're any differences.
