Remote Desktop Gateway - Office Support and other

I setup an RD Gateway Server as a proof of concept for our business only to have the IT Director shoot it down saying Microsoft is not going to support (allow) Office to be ran over RD Gateway in the next few years. I countered that he was referring to RDS (Terminal Server) and not RD Gateway, that Microsoft cannot control what is ran over an RD Gateway/RDP session as it is just a tunneled RDP session. The only constraints are licensing for Office and CALS for RD Gateway.

Am I not correct? Is there any linked Microsoft material I can cite to show him he is wrong?

    Hi,

Microsoft hasn't made any announcements of dropping support of RD Gateway (RDG). For your use case of just using RDG it is as you say--it is a tunneled RDP session, and they don't put a constraint on what passes through the tunnel, provided you have necessary RDS CALs for each user/device.

Windows Server 2022 End of Life is currently October 14, 2031, so even if it were the last version that included RD Gateway (they haven't said it is) you should be okay for several more years:
