msedgewebview2 show slowly first time in cold start.

I am using Microsoft Edge WebView2 replacing the CEF for showing page in my app. but i found that the web page shows slowly first time in cold start.( about 7-8s) After analyzing for a period of time, it is basically confirmed that it is caused by file io reading and writing. Especially when running, generate a EWebView folder, see the screenshot below link for details.

now Is there any way to speed up the webpage display?

Hi @youqiang_wu

First, the creation of EBWebView folder at first time is expected behavior. It's the user data folder.

Second, WebView2 initialization is dependent on machine performance, so there's no one time that it's expected to run within.

I have tested and it takes normal time on my machine when I open a WebView2 app for the first time. If it only takes a long time at first time cold start on I/O operations, it has high possibility to be related with your computer hardware like hard disk.

the computer configuration is not the key point.

it only takes a long time at first time cold start on I/O operations.

and it will be normal in hot start .

or how to accelerate the display of the webpage, after all, the reading and writing of the file under ebwebview folder is not necessarily necessary for the webpage display. Can this part of the read and write be delayed?

For your "cold start" and "hot start", in my understanding, cold start means starting the app from scratch and hot start means there's already process running in the background. Please correct me if there's any misunderstanding.

If the WebView2 app takes too long to initialize, you can also check this case. It's the situation that proxy settings lead to the issue. You can try to disable proxy settings in Windows.

For the read and write of EBWebView folder, I think that's by design and you can't delay it. But you can use --disk-cache-size to restrict the cache size in this folder as large cache can also slow down the app performance. For more information, you can refer to this comment.

I use your code and it only takes about 2s to open WebView2 app. The I/O operations means hard disk reading/writing, so the slow performance is just related with your hardware performance.

Open the webview2 app, and the webpage displayed by the webview2 app is two different time periods.

The last 2s should be relatively slow for customers. I noticed that the userdata file is nearly 8M. Is there any setting to optimize unnecessary file generation?

or Is it possible to share this kind of data with Edge ？

I think there's no good way to change how WebView2 works on this situation and seems we can't share the data with Edge. You can also raise the issue on GitHub WebView2Feedback to see if other community members have any other suggestion.

I'm afraid the answer is NO. That's WebView2 Runtime, it's not a user-visible app.
