Hi all,
I am getting an error trying to connect to yet another FTPS server.. Here is the exact error (Typo was in the error message):
Failed to connect to FTP server. Please make sure the provided server informantion is correct, and try again.
The remote server returned an error: (502) Command not implemented.
Activity ID: 30854ded-5dc3-4829-b0f0-bc8ca1257c68.
Is ADF just not capable of handling FTPS or are our vendors just using really bad implementations? I had never even heard of FTPS until recently and now I have two sources using it and ADF cannot handle either.
Any sort of workarounds would be appreciated.

Thanks for the question and also for using the forum .
Can please do let me know if you are trying to copy a file or a folder when you encountered this error , if its a file can you try to copy a folder and let us know if you are getting the same error ? I am assuming that you are not using a Self hosted runtime ( SHIR ) , if you are can please share the version installed .

This was just testing the linked service. No SHIR.
We did get it resolved though, though in a very weird way that suggests the vendor didn't implement things properly.
If we put the full path into the URL (site.vendor.com/folder) it worked with straight FTP and no SSL.
Most likely our security team will throw a fit once they find out though, and that will be changed.
I suspect they are using implicit SSL/TSL encryption, or at least trying to.
Any ideas for workarounds since ADF does not support that?

Just wanted to check again and understand if giving a folder path does work but giving a file path errrors out ? The reason I am asking is there was a bug when we point the copy activty to a file , unfortunately i am not sure if the fix was deployed .
Regarding the implicit SSL/TSL encryption unfortunately thats still a limitation .

The vendor got back to us with a port for Explicit ssl/tsl encryption and it magically all works now.
I probably should have waited until I heard from them - Sorry!

This annoying issue still exists with FTP connections via copy activity (no SHIR). Agreed FTP itself is bad, but for legacy vendors who still are on ftp, copy activity / linked service should work.
I have no luck trying above workarounds, such as using folder level URL, nor disabling SSL. It keeps on saying 502 Method not implemented.
I even refreshed ADF UI since many a times changes reflect after page refresh (due to state being refreshed), no luck there as well.
Any help is appreciated!
