How to connect micro:bit to excel for robotic hand hacking stem project?

I am working on the Hacking Stem Robot Hand project with my high school students. This is the first time I have attempted this project. We are having difficulty getting the glove to connect with excel. According to the instructions I needed to install the program on the Micro:bit, save an editable version of the excel workbook, and install a data stream add-in with excel. I have done all three steps and nothing is working. When I hook the wires between the micro:bit and the glove the micro:bit goes through numbers then shows a sad face. I am thinking this is a hardware problem with the wiring for the glove and the micro:bit, however, I don't know how to troubleshoot this problem. Do you have any suggestions or videos I can watch to help with this?

I am using the Microsoft Hacking STEM Robotic Hand Project - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/educator-center/instructor-materials/build-machines-that-emulate-humans - With this project students built a flex sensor glove that connects to a micro:bit then to a computer. The input from the flex sensor is supposed to be recorded in excel. All of these programs and files are in the link I provided. However, I am finding the micro:bit will not communicate with excel.
