Windows Hello 'Looking for you' on sign in but disabled.#

Device is set to disable windows hello via GPO and registry edit, as well as a disable windows hello for business policy applied to it vis Intune.

The device or user is still receiving the windows hello prompt 'Looking for you' while attempting to log in - although the option to set up or remove biometrics is greyed out.

    Hello there,

Is this message displayed for all users in the domain or only for a specific set of users?

Check your GPO priority. GPOs linked to organizational units have the highest precedence, followed by those linked to domains. GPOs linked to sites always take the least precedence. To understand which GPOs are linked to a domain or OU, click the domain or OU in GPMC and select the Linked Group Policy Objects tab.

Hope this resolves your Query !!

    Hi Ellis,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Learn!

Issue reported: Windows Hello 'Looking for you' on sign in but disabled.

Please follow below mentioned troubleshooting steps and update on this thread.

    ·         Try to remove third party security software/antivirus and delete associated folders in the base drive.

    ·         Clear off temporary files and run disk clean up.

    ·         Perform a Check Disk scan:

Type ‘cmd’ in the search box and right click on command prompt and click on run as administrator.

Then type ‘CHKDSK /f’ in the command prompt and then enter ‘Y’ when it prompts for Y/N.

    Then restart your machine.

    ·         Once the machine is restarted. Then open device manager and uninstall biometrics driver.

    ·         Then perform an SFC scan.

Type ‘cmd’ in the search box and right click on command prompt and click on run as administrator.

Then Type ‘SFC /scannow and hit enter.

The scan will take some time to complete until it gives you a result of the scan.

    Then restart your machine.

Once, you perform above mentioned troubleshooting steps, the ‘Windows Hello’ service should work normally.

Kindly, update your findings, we will appreciate it.

    Sincerely,

    CK

I ran through all of the steps, with "CHKDSK /f" and "SFC /scannow" both reporting bad files found, and corrected them. Indeed the main issue of Microsofts unsolicited "Loooking for you" facial scan appears fixed?, however the solution is pretty ineligant.

Now when the PC boots, part of the Looking for you grapic (I guess an Eyeball?) is still shown on screen, along with the Text: "Something went wrong. Please sign in with your PIN". -Sure wish Microsoft wiould fix their bad code!
