I am still experiencing the same issue I brought to here back on November 16, 2022. I cannot publish a .NET 6 ASP.NET Core app, from VS 2022. The error in the Output window is:

Error details: Could not connect to the remote computer ("OURSERVER"). On the remote computer, make sure that Web Deploy is installed and that the required process ("Web Management Service") is started. Learn more at: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=221672#ERROR_DESTINATION_NOT_REACHABLE. The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. Publish failed to deploy.

However, Web Management Service IS installed AND running on the server:

Back in November it was suggested that a firewall rule might be what's causing the problem. I am not an expert at firewall rules and I've got a feeling that the person in IT I've been dealing with, isn't either. So, what can I tell her, which will help her to diagnose the problem?

Reaching 404 is documented in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/publish/troubleshooting-web-deploy/troubleshooting-common-problems-with-web-deploy

According to that article, you didn't install "IIS 7 Deployment Handler" so that there is nothing on IIS to handle your publishing requests.

The paragraphs after "The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found" are very important.
