Mapped Drive / Folder Redirection keeps dropping connection on client PC over Ethernet, any ideas?
Hello everyone,
I'm running into some domain issues at the moment, and could use some help.
We have 2 clients in the same room connected to our domain, that have both Folder Redirection enabled and mapped drives for sharing and accessing files from any workstation. This has worked well with the rest of the clients (3 others); Nobody else is having connectivity issues except these two. One of the clients is connected over Ethernet, and the other is connected over Wi-Fi. Every now and again, the client machines (more often the one with Ethernet) will lose connection to mapped drives and "online" folder redirection, which causes them to lose their work as they work directly off the mapped drive. I've advised the clients to stop working off of the desktop, however they say the same issue is arising, where they are unable to save their progress using the application they use to do work. This is costing us a lot of time and money. We'd like to find a solution as quickly as possible.
The domain is setup as follows with two separate machines:
- Domain Controller, with a static IP
- File Server, with a static IP
Each client has their primary DNS entry facing toward the domain controller, and are configured and connected on the domain. Anyone is able to access the file share with their domain credentials.
I eliminated the idea of permissions being a problem, as all five clients (and computers) are all in the same OU and respective user or computer group.
The general details of the share (in Server Manager):
My mapped drive GPO is mapped as such:
Here are the permissions on the file share (every client is in the highlighted group):
Here are the client photos (can definitely get more).
Example 1: User is unable to connect to the mapped Z drive to save work.
Example 2: Looking at the mapped drive in Windows. There are usually tons of files here, however only one folder is here, and it's the same one linked to the open PDF.
Has anyone ever run into this issue before? Just looking for general pointers or places to look to further assess the problem, or perform a workaround.
Thank you for the help in advance, I really appreciate it!
