Traffic between azure's PaaS resources

If I am calling Azure SQL PaaS from Azure Function app... ( Suppose I am not using private endpoints for both ), then will the traffic between them go over azure backbone network or via internet.

Please share any link to clarify this.

@MS Techie , Traffic will be flowing over Azure backbone.

Thanks for your answer , One follow up question.
In which schenerios , traffic will traverse the internet? and what is the use of private endpoint and service endpoint?

I wanted to make my two PaaS service in same region traffic goes only through Azure Backbone network without going through internet , it means that by default traffic traverse the microsoft network , does not require to necessarily use SP or PE?

Please help me for understanding.
