IIS installation failure due to reference assembly missing 0x800736b3 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_NOT_FOUND on windows 11

Hi All,

I tried install IIS from control panel -> program and features , I already installed .Net framework 3.5 and 4.8 also in the program and feature dialog, I'm getting error like "the reference assebly is not installed on you system", I tried several experiments going through several communities and blogs, but still IIS not getting installed. If you anyone give answer to it ..it would be helpful.

    Regarding the error code 0x800736b3, it usually only appears on Windows 10 or 11. I tested installing IIS and .Net framework 3.5 on a new win11 machine. But the problem was not reproduced. "I tried several experiments going through several communities and blogs". I don't know which methods you have tried, so I will provide some test methods and options step by step.

    Run Windows Update Troubleshooter. Then restart computer to test the installation.

    Use Group Policy Editor. Restart computer to test the installation.

    1. Press Windows key, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Once Group Policy Editor opens, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System.
    3. Look for Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair option on the right pane.
    4. If it is set to Not Configured, double-click on it, set Enabled.
    5. After that, enable Contact Windows Update directly to download repair content instead of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and click OK.

    Try the following steps and then run Windows Update

    1. In the search box on the taskbar, enter Command Prompt.
    2. Right-click Command Prompt from the search results and select Run as administrator.
    3. Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (remember the space before each "/"). (Note: This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to run and complete.)
    4. Enter sfc /scannow (remember the space between "sfc" and "/").
