Windows Server license regulations

성묵 임 0 Reputation points

I would like to know about the Windows Server license regulations.

I currently purchased Windows Server 2022, but the customer requested to reinstall the server with the 2019 version.

Can I use my Windows Server 2022 license key with Windows 2019?

    Downgrading versions and edition

    • Windows Server 2022 Datacenter may be downgraded to any previous version of Windows Server Datacenter or Standard
    • Windows Server 2022 Standard may be downgraded to any previous version of Windows Server Standard
    • Note that the CALs must be the same or a higher version of the server being accessed

Downgrade rights Windows Server is streamlined and simple, making it easy for customers to choose the edition that is right for their needs. Customers can also choose to deploy earlier versions of the same edition or lower editions in place of what they are licensed for. These are referred to as “downgrade rights” and “down edition rights.” When invoking downgrade rights or down edition rights, the license terms of the version and edition acquired still govern use of the software.

Thank you for your question and reaching out. I can understand you are having query\issues related to Windows server Licensing.

I believe new Windows 2022 product key cannot be used to activate Server 2019 (or 2016).

The easy way for you may be to ask the seller to provide the downgrade product keys.
