SCCM Software Center installation keeps on failing with Download Timeout 0x800705B4

We are deploying software through sccm, as packages.

Smaller packages is not an issue. All goes well.
Bigger packages, which contain a lot of smaller files, tend to fail during the download process.

Download does start and if we keep on pressing retry, it will succeed from time to time.

Reviewed this with our networks team, where we concluded that the client (laptop) was communicating with the Windows 10 Distribution Point, with only a switch between them

Copying the package content from the DP server to the Client, goes fast enough. (copied the content to a share to be able to test this).

Based on the logs you provided, it seems that the error is related to the download of the package content from the Distribution Point (DP) to the client.

One possible reason for this issue could be the network connectivity between the client and the DP. You mentioned that there is only a switch between them, but it's possible that the switch is not able to handle the large amount of data being transferred, causing intermittent connection drops and download failures.

To troubleshoot this further, you could try the following steps:

    1. Check the network utilization on the switch and make sure that it's not exceeding its capacity. You can use network monitoring tools like Wireshark to capture network traffic and analyze it for any issues.
    2. Check the disk space on the client machine to ensure that there is enough space available to download and install the package.
    3. Check the package source files to make sure that they are not corrupt or missing any required files.
    4. Increase the download timeout setting for the SCCM client. This can be done by modifying the "DownloadTimeout" registry value on the client machine. The default value is 60 minutes, but you can increase it to a higher value to allow more time for the download to complete.
    5. Use a different distribution method, such as BranchCache, to distribute the package content. This can improve the download speed and reliability, especially for large packages.
    6. Consider using a different package format, such as a single compressed file or a self-extracting archive, to reduce the number of files being transferred and simplify the download process.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to engage your SCCM support team for further assistance. They may be able to provide more detailed troubleshooting steps based on the specific error codes and logs generated by SCCM.

I just started experiencing this error after upgrading my clients to 2207, are you on 2207 or newer? Have you tried reinstalling the client making sure ccm wmi is gone? This showed up for me do to a boundary not being in place for a new subnet, then I had to reinstall all my clients then they worked. Currently testing with a 2107 client to see if the same happens (which never happened before and boundaries are always being added) I will try continuing to click install to see if it ever finishes that part is interesting. I have up after a couple tries. Thanks

    We are using 2207.

This issue has been "resolved" through disabling the PeerCache and BrancheCache options on the clients.

As soon as this was blocked, the downloads worked fine again.

We have a workaround, but this should not be the way.
