Microsoft Apps for Business 365 w/o Microsoft Exchange / Email
Recently, I moved a very small team (2 people) to using Microsoft Business Apps - which is basically office 365 & OneDrive.
This team already have external email which they are not interested in moving. This is why I picked the product of Microsoft Business Apps as it does not include any exchange or email services.
Set up was very simple and move worked at first what felt as without any issues.
However, when it comes to sharing to and from the members of this team either between each other or with any outside users; this doesn't work.
It can work using the links; however, the problem is that according to Microsoft from the outside of the tenant; the users do not exist. And from inside the tenant; they can share with anyone; but no emails go out.
So, besides the onmicrosoft domain, I used the customer's actual email domain.
Should I have used the onmicrosoft account and will that route / send emails to their domain?
Has anyone had this issue and what is the solution here. What is the best path forward. Besides moving their email to Microsoft.
Is there a way to just MX out the email and let Microsoft handle the office / onedrive stuff?
Why does the Business Apps product even exist if you cannot use external email?
Thanks for any help or direction?
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A platform!
Because you don't have Exchange services in the product, it's normal for email feature to not be available. So, I will remove Exchange Online related tag from your thread.
Thanks for your understanding and patience!
That is fine; you may remove it. But why even have the feature to email persons when updates are done when the only way for that function to work is to use Microsoft Exchange server. It does not even allow for clients to migrate. You may remove the exchange tag. Is there a way to make email notification to work any way without having exchange email?
Because to me this is one of those situations where you sold me a car and the car cannot do a major part of what it claims it should do; because well it doesn't have your must purchase from me tires. I am not allowed to buy tires from any one else. And if I do; that whole feature that is integral to the car functioning will not work.
So, is there anyway to effectively use Business Apps from Microsoft without Microsoft / exchange email?
OR is there not?
Office apps or OneDrive is licensed on a “per-user” basis, so the organizational accounts are required.
As your issue is more related to account and the domain, it's best post a new thread on Microsoft Tech Community --- Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
Thanks for your understandings.
Thanks...That makes sense.
I have posted in the alternative forum. Should I just delete this one or is there a way to close it?
