// #azure-fundamentals // I am unable to complete the exercise by using the Microsoft Azure portal at the URL - https://portal.azure.com, as per the Microsoft Learn Module details available at the URL for it !!

URL of Microsoft Learn Module being learnt is - " https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/modules/describe-features-tools-azure-for-governance-compliance/5-exercise-configure-resource-lock "

Unable to use Microsoft Azure Portal elements, components within it, after logging into it which I understand the Microsoft Learn Sandbox for working on exercises as given in the Microsoft Learn modules, to be attempted, worked on, completed by those learning using the Microsoft Learn modules

Microsoft Account being used to login to the Microsoft Learn module is -> daniel_p.p@outlook.com

Microsoft Azure Portal as I understand is also using the same Account, Login details as mentioned above -> daniel_p.p@outlook.com

I am able to login to Microsoft Azure Portal but unable to complete the exercise as given in the Microsoft Learn module, as the Microsoft Azure Portal displays the Welcome to Azure page with different options with one of the options being to start subscription

I understand, there is no subscription required for Microsoft Learn learning

Could someone from Microsoft Learn and / or Microsoft, assist to resolve my highlighted issue for my Microsoft Learn learning as per above mentioned details

    Hi,

The problem you are seeing is a known issue. Unfortunately, you don't have enough permissions in the sandbox subscription so you are blocked from creating the resource locks. What you can do instead is to use Azure Free account, -OR- you can skip this exercise and just study the core concept of locks instead.

The key thing to learn is difference between the 2 types of resource locks and what their effects are.

If the above is helpful please click Accept Answer. If you have questions regarding locks/the exercise go ahead and add a comment below.

    Thanks.

    @Daniel P P ,

As I understand you're leveraging same account for both the subscriptions.

Adding to TP, if you haven't tried this already, kindly switch the directory on Azure Portal. It should say Microsoft Learn Sandbox.

You can tell whether you're in the sandbox by looking at the directory listed under your name in the upper-right corner. It should say Microsoft Learn Sandbox.

If you sign into the Azure portal and are in your own subscription (or you sign in to your subscription and end up in the sandbox), one of two things might be wrong. Either you haven't activated the sandbox (Sandbox is activated) or your Azure settings put you in a default directory (the issue is mostly, due to directory).

    ·       You can change the directory by selecting the Directory and Subscription filter button on the toolbar along the top.

    • The sandbox works independently from your regular subscriptions.

Any unit that uses the Azure portal will always have a link in the instructions to make sure you're in the sandbox. You should always use this link to open the portal, because it will put you in the right directory and subscription. When you're prompted for a username and password, be sure to use the same account that you used to activate the sandbox.
