I have been unable to install SQL for a few days now. I am using windows 11 and I am trying to install the basic option. I will appreciate any help I can get

    As the error message says, check the SQL Server errorlog. You find it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL16.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG.

    If you see a message about 256 misaligned reads, you are running into a known issue, and Microsoft has published this troubleshooter: https://docs.microsoft.com/sv-se/troubleshoot/sql/admin/troubleshoot-os-4kb-disk-sector-size?WT.mc_id=DP-MVP-5440.

    Maybe the engine doesn't start until creating an error log, so you should at least find a summary hostname date.txt and/or a detail.txt in this folder:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\160\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20230319_230057

    If you can post those files here, we might be able to give an answer to why your engines won't start.

    Open Task Manager > tab page 'Services'. Click on 'Open Services'. Find the service 'SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS14 or SQLEXPRESS14BS)' > right mouse button > 'Stop'. Find the service 'SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS14 or SQLEXPRESS14BS)' > right mouse button > 'Start'.
