Dear Support,

We plan to migrate our current SCCM architecture to a physical server. Seeking your professional advice on how to perform this migration successfully and with fewer challenges?

Our is small site with only one DP (i.e., around 250 users + 19 different location (VPN sites)). Initially, there were several issues with the new SCCM configuration.. After 3 months efforts, everything appears to be normal and functioning properly.

The current SCCM infrastructure is on Dell Optiplex 3090 (workstation PC as a server) - includes server 2019 + SCCM + SQL + WSUS + Reporting server). Our company wants to upgrade the SCCM infrastructure to a real physical server because we are now utilising SCCM on non-server machines.

What do you think if we use the following approach?,

  1. Clone the whole image from a Dell PC (Server OS, SCCM, SQL, WSUS, Reporting Service, and other dependencies).
  2. Create a new server operating system using the same resources (i.e., C, D and E drives with same disk space).
  3. Mirror the clone image into the new build server (Using the same server name, IP address, and DNS settings)
  4. Turn OFF the existing server and TURN ON the new server.

or Any alternative suggestion please?
