I am looking for MS SQL 2008 R2 Standard Edition download media to support a legacy application but can't find it.

2023-03-21T21:24:11.56+00:00 It might be called Visual Studio subscriptions these days. www.visualstudio.com seems to be the place. Assuming that you need this for your company, you may need to talk with your boss. Getting it from MSDN is about the only purely legal way to get it. You may also find it if you google around, but that could be from suspect place.

Unfortunately, Microsoft no longer provides official download links for SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. It is no longer supported and has reached its end of life.
However, you may be able to find the installation media through third-party websites or resellers. Please note that downloading software from unofficial sources carries the risk of malware and other security issues.

In case of OS compatibility, you can choose a newer version of SQL Server.

Here is my download link for SQL Server 2008R2 from search for sql for download. All versions are there for your subscription (I mean mine at least).

2023-03-22T21:35:59.4766667+00:00 It occurred to me that here is one more option, to wit create an Azure SQL VM. Interesting enough, they still seem to have images with SQL 2008 R2. Obviously, this requires that your organisation gets an Azure subscription.
