Policy Applied:

Allow Storage Sense = Enabled

Configure Storage Sense cadence = Every day

Configure Storage Sense Recycle Bin clean-up threshold = 30 days (although we should put that at 2 days for now so we can test it properly)

Testing :-

Day 1 - delete some things and verify they’re in the recycle bin

Day 2 - delete something else

Day 3 - the files from Day 1 should be removed from the recycle bin. Items from day 2 should still be there

Day 4 – items from day 2 should be removed from the recycle bin

The test result failed. Storage sense is not getting enabled with the applied GPO. GPO wins in the result , but fails to action.

    Hello @Kumar HS, Manoj

    Thank you for posting in our Q&A forum.

    After my checking, the three gpo policy settings you mentioned are Computer Configuration:

    1.Computer Configuration\System\Storage Sense\Allow Storage Sense
    2.Computer Configuration\System\Storage Sense\Configure Storage Sense cadence
    3.Computer Configuration\System\Storage Sense\Configure Storage Sense Recycle Bin cleanup threshold

    Does the problem occur on one machine or all the machines the GPO applied?

    We can export the GP result file and check the GPO application result on the problematic machine.
    1.Run gpresult /h on the problematic machine.
    2.Logon the machine using Administrator credential.
    3.Open CMD(run as Administrator).
    4.Type gpresult /h C:\gpo.html and click Enter.

    If all the gpresult is OK as we configured. We can check:
    1.If machine OS is ✔️ Windows 10, version 1903 [10.0.18362] and later and not home version.
    2.Check if the corresponding registry is changed to correct value.

    Allow Storage Sense=>Enabled:
    Storage Sense will delete the user's temporary files that are not in use. Users cannot disable this setting in Storage settings.
    Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\StorageSense\AllowStorageSenseGlobal\SS_AllowStorageSenseGlobal=1

    Configure Storage Sense cadence=>Enabled:
    You must provide the minimum age threshold (in days) of a file in the Recycle Bin before Storage Sense will delete it. Supported values are: 0 - 365. If you set this value to zero, Storage Sense will not delete files in the user's Recycle Bin. The default is 30 days.
    Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\StorageSense\SS_ConfigStorageSenseGlobalCadence=1 (daily)

    Configure Storage Sense Recycle Bin clean-up threshold=>Enabled:
    This policy setting configures whether or not Windows will activate an Enhanced Storage device. If you enable this policy setting, Windows will not activate unactivated Enhanced Storage devices.

    Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\StorageSense\SS_ConfigStorageSenseRecycleBinCleanupThreshold=30(30 days)

    Hope the information above is helpful. If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou
